NINTENDO ANYONE?

Chapter 6

Over the next couple of months Nick and I talked a couple of times a week on the phone. He would call me, usually, a couple of hours before the show. When they had rare personal time. If he wasn’t able to do it then, he would call after the show. I was dying to see them, I couldn’t wait for the concert. The thought of getting to see Nick again made the butterflies in my stomach go into over drive.

The three of us had managed to come up with the money to fly to Toronto. We really didn’t want to have to call the guys and ask them for some. The only problem was, we only had money for the plane tickets, we had eventually come up with money for a hotel at the last minute, but we didn’t have one reserved. Tara and Michelle were hoping that Kevin and Howie would help them solve that problem. I didn’t even want to think about it.

Talking with Nick over the last few months was fine, but things may have changed once we saw one another again. I hoped that it didn’t happen, I was more in love with Nick than ever before after some of the talks that we had.

I never thought that the time would come to leave for Toronto. But it did. Tara picked me up first, together we went and got Michelle. Our flight was leaving at 7am. That would put us in Toronto at 12pm, their time. I was so nervous seeing Nick again. We had told the guys what time we were going to be there and they said that they would wait for us at the hotel. There was no point in the guys coming to the airport and making a scene with any fans.

The flight went by in no time. It seemed as though we were off the plane and had our luggage in seconds. The guys had sent a limo for us, the driver was waiting, helped us with our couple of bags and then whisked us off to the hotel. The closer that we got, the more nervous that I got. We could tell the hotel was closer as the girls started to be more and more apparent. Wanting a glimpse of the guys. I chuckled to myself, if they only knew. At one point it seemed that a few of the girls thought that we were the guys and tried to get into the limo. Luckily the doors were locked.

We were quickly shuttled into the hotel and led by a bellhop to where the guys were waiting. They had obviously given a lot of thought into getting us to their room safely. The bellhop left us at the door after knocking. Howie opened the door with a flourish a second later and Michelle jumped into his arms. Tara burst into the room and flung herself at Kevin. I looked for Nick and upon seeing him, my heart dropped to the floor, tears sprang into my eyes, but my feet wouldn’t move. I couldn’t make them take me to Nick.

Nick came to me and picked me up into his arms. I threw my arms around him and knew that this was were I wanted to be for the rest of my life. I didn’t want to be anywhere else but in Nick’s arms.

“God I have missed you.” he whispered in my ear.

I pulled back just a little and smiled at Nick, “Not half as much as what I missed you.” I said back and placed my lips on his. It was like I had just taken my first drink of water after months of being stranded in the desert. I couldn’t get enough of Nick.

There was a light tapping on my shoulder. “I hate to interrupt this little moment, but we should get to the stadium for rehearsal.” Brian said.

I parted from Nick and smiled, “I guess I should let you go.” I whispered.

Nick smiled at me, “Only for a little while.” He joked.

The guys had not spoken about us yet to the press. They wanted us to get used to the idea of dating celebrities, before they threw the press into the mixture. We were taken down to the underground parking garage and we all settled comfortably into the limo. We all started talking at once. Catching up over the last few months. I had gotten a hold of Nick’s hand and wasn’t letting go.

We made it to the stadium, we all piled out and the guys headed for the fans. I watched Nick closely, this was the first time that I would see him with them. I waited for the pang of worry that was sure to hit. Nick approached a small group of girls that were probably about sixteen to seventeen. They were all beautiful. And all in love with Nick. They were handing him flowers and letters and boxes of Kraft Macaroni and Cheese.

Nick was aware that I was watching him, he turned once and smiled at me. He gave his autograph to all of them, hugs and kisses all around and then he came back to me. “Nothing to worry about.” He whispered as he kissed the top of my head.

I smiled up at him in appreciation.

We got into the stadium and made our way to the stage. Everything looked fabulous. This was going to be a magnificent show. The guys did their rehearsal and sound check and went over a few things with the band. Then they were ours.

They were going to drop by Much Music and hang out there for a bit. We tagged along as we had grown up on Much Music and were thrilled to finally be seeing Chum City. As soon as we walked in, I was in heaven. There was Rick the Temp. He was my favorite vj.

We stuck around Much for awhile, I didn’t realize that Nick was upset with me. It wasn’t until we got back to the stadium that I said anything to him. “Nick, what is the matter?”

“Nothing.” He replied rather curtly.

I looked at him and shrugged it off. Maybe this was just the way he got sometimes. I really hadn’t spent that much time with Nick, so other than knowing what he was like when he was happy, I didn’t know how to handle this mood.

The guys got ready for the show. I tried once again to get Nick to talk with me, but he brushed me off. I slumped in the corner. Tara and Michelle were busy with Kevin and Howie and hadn’t noticed that I was upset. I was thinking of leaving when Brian came up to me.

“Kielly, what’s the matter? You look like you just found out your best friend died.” He started as he sat down beside me. “And I know that’s not true, because I just saw them both in heavy lip lock sessions with Kev and Howie.” He laughed.

I smiled as much as I could, “Nick is upset with me and I don’t know why. He won’t talk with me.”

“Are you sure he is upset with you? Maybe he is just in a mood.” Brian offered.

“No, I am pretty sure that it is me. I just knew that this was too good to be true. There was no way that I should have fallen in love with Nick. I knew that it wouldn’t work.”

“Now hold on a second Kielly. Don’t go jumping to conclusions.” Brian got up and started for the door, “Let me go find Nick and see what is going on.” And was gone before I could even got up to try and stop him.

A few minutes later I could hear Brian, AJ and Howie laughing as Nick was screaming. “No, you guys piss off, I don’t want to!”

Seconds after that, Howie opened the door and Brian and AJ, threw Nick in the room. They slammed the door and held it tight as Nick tried to get back out.

“Nick,” I said.

Nick calmed down and turned to me. “Hi.”

I walked up to him and put my hand on his arm. “Nick, why are you mad at me?”

Nick looked me straight in the eye and then walked away to sit down. I followed him and sat beside him. We were silent for a few minutes before he said anything. “Why were you throwing yourself at Rick?”

Rage came from somewhere. I don’t know from where, I bolted up and stood in front of Nick, “I beg your pardon?”

“Earlier, when we were at Much Music. You were all over Rick. Would you rather be with him than me?” Nick explained.

“I was not throwing myself at Rick. I was talking with him.” I stated.

Nick got to his feet, he towered over me. There was a split second of fear that he was going to hit me or something, but it went away as soon as it had come. “Well you sure do have a funny way of talking with someone.”

I glared at him, “What is that supposed to mean?”

“Kielly, you were all over the guy. If I didn’t know better, I would have thought you were trying to get him in to bed!” Nick bellowed at me.

Before I could stop myself, I reached up and slapped Nick across the face. “How dare you! I thought that we knew one another well enough by know that you should know I love you and that the only person I want to be with in that way is you!” I screamed at him.

Nick’s hand was rubbing the spot on his cheek that I had just marked. He stood rooted to the spot and looked at me with tears forming in his eyes, “Really?”

I softened a little as I saw the tears, “Really.” I reached up to Nick and took his hand away from his cheek, I kissed his hand and then stood on tiptoe to kiss his cheek. “I have never done anything like that, I am sorry for hitting you.” I whispered.

“It’s okay, I guess I deserved it. I am sorry for not trusting you.” Nick replied as he wrapped me in his arms.

“I love you Nick. I want to be with you and only you. In every way.” I whispered.

“I love you Kielly.” Nick replied and bent his head to kiss me.

We stood in that spot for a few minutes and then we heard the door creak open. “It got quiet in here. I thought I should check just in case you decided to kill one another.” Brian joked.

“Everything is okay Bri.” Nick laughed.

At that point the guys’ manager came and told them it was time to get on stage. Tara, Michelle, Leighanne and I were lead to our seats by a security guard and we sat and waited for the guys to come on. Leighanne had seen the show before and was waiting to see what our reactions to the guys would be.

She was not disappointed. Since this was our first concert with the guys, we were awed. The guys came out on little boogie board type things and were flying above the crowd. I was amazed that Brian had agreed to this, since he was deathly afraid of heights. They started out with Larger Than Life. Did a fabulous job and then launched into an old song.

About halfway through, they were doing another old song, As Long As You Love Me. Nick, Howie and Kevin broke the dance formation and jumped down to see us girls. They kept singing and despite being reached for by everyone around us, they managed to sing a little to us and even part with a kiss. We were the envy of all the girls around us and obviously they wanted to know who we were.

The show went on and the guys finished with the first release off of Millennium, I Want It That Way. You could tell that it was a favorite with the crowd. Everyone was singing at the top of their lungs. Leighanne gave us the cue to head backstage to avoid the rush.

The guys were staying the night in Toronto and then heading to the next show the following afternoon. Tara, Michelle and I were going to stay over night and then fly back to Edmonton after the guys had left. After seeing the way that they were with Howie and Kevin, I knew that I was going to have to find a hotel for myself. I still wasn’t sure what Nick wanted. I was soon to find out.

Kevin and Tara left as soon as Kevin had changed. Howie and Michelle left after Howie had a quick shower. AJ went to call his girlfriend, while Brian and Leighanne went to their own hotel room. Leaving Nick and I alone.

“So, what do you want to do?” Nick called out to me from the other room as he got changed.

“I don’t know, what do you guys usually do after a show?” I asked.

“Depends. Sometimes we just go to bed, sometimes the others go to clubs and I go back to the hotel and play Nintendo. Obviously I am left behind once again.” He muttered as he came around the corner.

I walked up to him, smiled and played with the collar on his shirt, “Maybe, but this time, you have me.”

Nick grinned and kissed the tip of my nose, “Well, when you put it that, it doesn’t sound so bad. What are you up for?”

I thought for a minute, “Why don’t we go play some Nintendo?” I suggested.

Nick laughed, “My kind of woman.” He threw his arms around my waist and led me out of the building.

We hailed the limo driver and headed back to the guys’ hotel. As we passed by Kevin’s room we saw the door slam shut on the room service guy, Howie’s all ready had a DO NOT DISTURB sign hung on it.

“I guess we can count those guys out for the night.” I joked. The butterflies had returned in the bottom of my stomach as I waited for Nick to unlock the door to his room.

“Are you going to come in, or are you waiting for an invitation?” Nick said snapping me back to reality.

“Oh, yeah, sorry.” I whispered and stepped into the room. It was a mess. This was so different from his room in Florida. Here I could barely see the bed. “Nick, you have hardly been in this room. How can it be such a disaster?”

Nick looked around as though he couldn’t see what I was talking about. “I guess I just don’t pay attention the where I put things.”

I picked up a pair of his underwear that were hanging from the corner of the dresser. “Obviously.” I joked as I tossed them at Nick.

His face red with embarrassment he threw them in a corner with another pile of clothes. “Sorry about that.” He mumbled.

I walked over to him and kissed him lightly on the cheek, “Don’t be. Now I can say that I have seen your underwear.” I laughed. “Now, where’s the Nintendo?”

We got comfortable on the bed and started a game. The luck that I had with the first game that Nick showed me back in Florida, didn’t carry on to this one. He won the game in no time. I was getting tired so I told Nick that he should just go ahead and play what he wanted, I would just watch. It wasn’t long before I was asleep.

“Kielly,” Nick said softly. Gently shaking my shoulders.

I opened my eyes and looked at Nick, “Hi. Is it time to go?” I asked as I rolled over and stretched.

“Not quite. It’s only 2am, did you have a hotel or something that you were staying at?” He asked.

I was instantly awake, “No, we didn’t have time to reserve anything for us. I think that we were just going to see what was available when we needed one. Tara and Michelle have obviously found a place to sleep.” I reached for the phone and called to the front desk. “Are there any rooms available? Thank you.”

“What did they say?” Nick asked.

“Nothing. I have no place to stay.” I said.

Nick and I sat quietly on the bed, “You could stay here with me.” He suggested.

I didn’t have a problem with that. I trusted Nick that he wasn’t going to do anything that I didn’t want him to do. “That would be fine. If you are sure.” I hesitated.

“Fine with me as long as it’s okay with you. We just have to sleep.” He added.

I gazed at Nick, “Yeah.”

Nick got off the bed and walked over to his suitcase. He shuffled his things around and brought out a T-shirt. "You can sleep in this.”

I got up, caught the shirt and went to the bathroom. I don’t know why I was so nervous. It wasn’t like Nick and I had never spent the night together before. Except that time it didn’t mean anything, this time, it was so much more. I quickly changed and went back out to Nick. He was just pulling his jeans off. I watched quietly, his body silently calling out to me. I padded over to the bed and crawled across to Nick, I trailed my fingers over his tattoo, a music note. Nick froze at my touch, I got braver and gently placed a line of kisses from one shoulder to the other.

“I’ve missed you so much Nick.” I whispered.

Nick turned to face me. “I’ve missed you just as much.” He replied. He pushed me back, his lips finding mine.

We grew comfortable together, until suddenly Nick pulled away. “What is it Nick?”

“I’m sorry Kielly, I just can’t.” He said.

“It’s okay Nick,. I’m not ready for this anyway.” I assured him

“When we do this, I want it to be right. At my house, after a long romantic evening, candlelight.” Nick explained as we cuddled under the covers.

“Nick?”

“Yeah.”

“Have you ever slept with a girl before?” I asked.

Nick was quiet, “No I haven’t. No one has seemed right before you.” He answered. “Have you?”

I couldn’t help it, “Slept with a girl, no.” I joked.

Nick laughed and squeezed me tight, “You know what I mean.”

“Yes I have. When I was seventeen. He promised me that we would be together forever.” I chuckled a little, “You can see how well that turned out.” Nick was quiet again. “Are you disappointed?”

“No, you thought it was right for you at the time. When I was seventeen we were just beginning our climb here in North America, I didn’t have time to think about that.” Nick confessed.

I pushed myself up on one elbow, “Oh come on Nick. All those girls, screaming, willing to jump you at the drop of a hat and you never once thought about doing one of them?” I asked in disbelief.

“I never said I never thought about it. And you know, people are always asking us about that, sleeping with a fan, I mean. Honestly, I could never do that." Nick told me.

“Not even if it was some gorgeous, six foot, blonde haired goddess?”

“Well …” He trailed off laughing as I playfully slapped his chest. “No I wouldn’t, who knows where she’s been.”

“That’s good to know.” I replied. The long day I’d had just caught up with me as my eyes got heavy. I whispered to Nick, “I love you.”

When I woke the next morning, Nick was still sleeping, his arm was casually draped across my stomach. I rolled over and watched Nick. How was it possible for one man to be so perfect?
